Peig Abbott began her artistic journey through tactile
manipulation of paint, but once introduced to clay she immediately
fell in love with the process of sculpture. Through realistic and
abstract representation, the figure has formed an integral role in
Peig’s creative process. She captures the essence of form, movement,
and grace of the figure while exploring elements of the human
condition. The natural aesthetic and material qualities of stone,
clay, wood and metal motivate and shape her work. She has engaged in
blacksmithing and stone carving apprenticeships in Lunenburg, NS and
Whidbey Island, WA, respectively, and volunteered at a foundry in
Amherst, NS where she cast her first work in bronze. Peig’s first
solo exhibition, remnants, is featured in the special publication of
Atlantis entitled “Women, Art, Politics and Power”. Her work has
been represented in national and international exhibitions, and can
be found in private collections across Canada. Peig currently
resides in Banff and has a studio in Irricana, Alberta. |
