May 2009—Carbon Prickly Pear Gallery
Russel
Whaley was born and raised in the Hanna area. While he prefers to
call himself a craftsman rather than an artist, we enjoy having his
work at the Farmers’ X. It suits the character of our historical
venue.
We
first met Russell when he crafted figurative sculptures made from
recycled found materials that he collected around the area. You may
recall his use of horse shoe nails. His sculptures have developed
and grown since that time.
For
the show in May, he has provided us with a collection of Harley
Davidson Bikes, and some smaller 4 cylinder bikes, along with a
collection of historical farm implements. Russell has put a lot of
study into how the machinery of yesterday operated and was created.
Many memories will be recalled as you view his work.
