There’s treasure
hidden in a Village in the Valley. Come explore the
Farmers' X building located on Caradoc Avenue –downtown
Carbon, Alberta, approximately a one-hour drive N.E. from
Calgary. While the Farmers' X may appear to be the local
grocery store—look again. It’s a 93 years ago heritage building
where local residents have filled the main floor museum with
artefacts that have been hidden in basements, barns and attics.
The result is a reflection of life during a past BOOM—when coal
miners sought their fortunes and gentlemen became farmers.
Inter-mixed with the artefacts are the creations of local
artists: a collection of oil paintings, watercolours, prints,
photographs, and stained glass panels.
Step outside the back door to enjoy
an Historical, Herbal Garden. The shaded patio
invites you to stop to enjoy the quiet of a hot summer day.
While you are there, contemplate the perfect sculpture that begs
to be erected. Barb, the summer attendant will be happy to
record your idea.
Wander
upstairs to the Prickly Pear Gallery to view high-quality
art work of contemporary Alberta Artists. If stairs prove
difficult, we boast a lift. And, the reward for venturing
upstairs is Iced Tea served in an air-conditioned gallery . On
the week-ends, Afternoon Tea is served in the Gallery. So far,
volunteers have left a special treat at tea time—2:00 p.m. to
4:00 p.m.
